** DISCLAIMER **
Use this package at your own risk. VN Software takes no responsibility for
any damage caused by using HOSTAGE RESCUE 3 or any of its composite parts.
We suggest that you should always back up your Doom2 directory before using
ANY external PWAD. If you are unsure about any of the install/uninstall
procedures, don't proceed.

* Map 1 *

A CQB training facility. Blat away at the targets until you learn to shoot
straight! This level was taken from a wad by Douglas Beck, (called
Grenade2.Wad), and slightly modified. All the kudos for this level should
go to Doug.

* Map 2 *

Terrorists have infiltrated an embassy, and are holding diplomatic staff as
hostages. The aim is to clear the embassy, with all the hostages still
alive. You will initially use Night Vision Goggles to survey the embassy
grounds. The terrorists control the front guard tower and the embassy
gardens. Be warned that the embassy contains an ornamental, though deep
river, which should be avoided. After the frontal assault, gain entry into
the building by whatever means possible and systematically search the
building. Your orders are to kill all terrorists on sight.

* Map 3 *

As part of a special forces unit trained in naval and underwater wafare,
you are tasked with patrolling coastal waters to intercept, confront and
neutralise drug and arms smugglers....

As you come abreast to a large boat, weapons and packing cases are clearly
visible on its decks. Before you can report to your base, small arms fire
is whistling past your head. You immediately grab your scuba gear and
weapons, and prepare to board the other craft.

* Make us a Demo *
If you have the technology, and are keen enough, we'd really like to see a
tightly drilled, co-op assault on the embassy. If you reckon you can do it,
give it a try. In fact, we wouldn't mind seeing any sort of demo you come
up with - whether it be a single player/co-op or even DM demo. However, a
DM isn't really feasible on any of the maps.

* Special Forces Legend? *
Are you a special forces legend? These levels, especially the embassy
assult, will require a good deal of skill and patience to finish.

Many people find the embassy assault particularly difficult.
At higher difficulty levels (the equivalent of HMP or greater) you'll
probably kill the hostages heaps of times. This is because we've
deliberately aimed for dynamic, unpredictable and explosive confrontations.
If you can complete the embassy assault in under 5 attempts on a high
difficulty level (i.e Ultra-violence or Nightmare using -fast param.)
without cheating or saving, then you are so HOT it probably hurts. For the
record, the level designer (Sidearm Joe) can successfully assault the
embassy in 12 minutes on HMP. (100% Kills, 100% Items, 100% Secrets)
Despite the fact that he should know what he's doing, he's never completed
the level at a higher difficultly level.

We've deliberately made the difficulty levels in the Embassy Assault map
quite distinct - the easiest difficultly level should be a walk-over; the
toughest will most likely have you attempting the embassy assault for the
term of your natural life. No matter what your Doom skill level is, you
should be able to find a difficulty level which is challenging. Easier
difficulty levels have fewer enemies and hostages, plus more ammo, health
and armor. The toughest difficulty level has heaps of hostages in areas that
make hostage rescue a nightmare - mainly due to the risk of the hostages
being caught in a crossfire. Also, ammo is extremely sparse, so you'd better
conserve it.

Naturally, we try to encourage the efforts of other creators. If you want
to make other wads using Hostage Rescue 3 as a base, please feel free. If
you use Hostage Rescue 3 as a base for something cool, just remember to tell
us about it.

The official version of the above:

Authors MAY use this WAD as a base to build additional WADs, provided that
they include a credit to VN Software in a relevant text file.

You MAY distribute this WAD in any electronic format (BBS, Diskette, CD) as
long as you include all files intact and unchanged. If you use this on any
form of compilation then we'd like a copy.

*Feedback*

We make absolutely no guarantee about the accuracy of this WAD. Shotguns,
H&K's and grenades are used by various special forces teams around the
world. However, they also use a whole range of equipment that cannot be
incorporated by the Doom engine. Feel free to comment on or criticise this
wad. Remember though, it's just a game. Also, please e-mail comments,
queries, bug reports and suggestions. If you want to know about any effects
contained in this wad, or are having any problems with it, feel free to get
in contact with us.
