                          Doom2 is not dead...
Description               There is a word in french which is used to describe
                          games such as doom. The word is "bourrin."
                          It's a colloquial term, almost player's slang. 
                          I doubt whether you'll find it in any dictionary.    
                          It might be translated by "chock-a-block with bad
                          guys" or perhaps better :"super hyper action_packed" 
                          You would say for example :
                          "Putain con ce wad il est bouurin !"
                          or using the same notion as a verb :  
                          "Oh con a bourrine un max."
                          Well this episode is definitely bouurin but
                          playable. 

                          I love doom.
                          I hate those  cyber_crammed, ugly looking, 
                          unplaytested levels.
                          I have got about 300 megs of wad files.
                          Quite a lot if you consider I don't have internet
                          access very often. (yet.)
READ THIS  =====>         I guess I like the same kind of WAD as any other
                          doomer around the world. I wanted to create fun,
                          challenging levels, you know the kind you play 
                          and keep on disk or tape because there 're so 
                          great...

                          The problem is I'm a very bad wad designer 
                          layout_wise. Apart from that, I believe my wads are
                          great. Well, not to bad...
              

                          I like to compare my wads to a Paganini concerto:
                          although they are admittedly well_polished and 
                          structured and fun  to play, they lack the 
                          grandness of a "MKMINES" or a "RAVEN" .
                          Besides, like Paganini's music, it's incredibly 
                          difficult but playable, ( Benoit 
                          played through level 3, displaying amzing, almmost
                          god_like, dooming skills. He scented every 
                          dangerous spot and just romped through parts 
                          that required no little industry. 
                          And that is an understatement.
                          And the guy plays doom with the keyboard.
                          I tought anyone playing with the keyboard just
                          wouldn't stand a chance.)

                          I just played MKFRGTME.WAD. What a great wad !!!
                          Unfortunately I wasn't playing nicely today and I
                          died at least 10 times (surprisingly not when one
                          would have expected). 
                          That's just too bad. A level is less fun when you
                          die too often. I wish Mark Anthony Klem had warned
                          the player about this. Well Don't ruin good levels
                          by playing awfully bad.
                          You should get any wad this guy made right now. 
                          They're so great. Much better than any wad I could
                          ever make.

                          Yet they you should not delete PAGANINI.WAD
                          right away without taking a closer look at it, for 
                          these themeless, architecturally simple levels are 
                          fast_paced, guts_wrenching, unpredictible, 
                          surpriseful, trapless, hectic, eventful battles.
                          ( which is my idea of a good doom level. ) 
                          
*** WHAT YOU WON'T ***    Nothing bugs me more than amazingly well constructed
*** FIND IN THIS  ****    stately castles  totally empty of monsters because
****    WAD       ****    adding a few items would have caused a save game bug
                          except perhaps a GREAT wad with no health, or no
                          ammo, or a couple of cyberdemons somewhere along
                          the way.
                          
                          What a waste of effort. The designer could 
                          have made a great wad with a little playtesting.
                     

                          Well there is no such thing in this wad. Every level 
                          has been playtested by 6 different people in UV so
                          I know every bit of each level and was able to 
                          "control" it by making tiny item changes according
                          to what the playtesters did or did not do as I 
                          watched them play.

READ THIS ======>         The game is very demanding, but feel sure that it
                          is there because it can be done not through mere
                          luck but with a good measure of skill and
                          intuition. Take it as a test of your own skills.
                          Remember : Level 3 is not exeactly my idea of an
                          easy wad, and Benoit beat it.

*** DOOMING ARE YOU ***   I CAN'T MAKE A NICE LOOKING WAD ANYWAY, BUT I WANTED 
***   GOING TO GET  ***   TO CREATE INTERESTING, HIGHLY SURPRISEFUL AND 
*** WITH THIS WAD ? ***   STRESSFUL SITUATIONS TO TEST YOUR ABILITY TO BOTH 
                          AIM ACCURATELY AND MANAGE TRICKY SITUATIONS AND 
                          INSTANTANEOUS CHANGES IN DANGEROUSNESS IN THE    
                          PLAYER'S SURROUNDINGS.

                          Hence a good number of closets (doors with tagged 
                          lines) in some levels. Hope you like this.

***ABOUT PLAYABILITY***   IF YOU ARE READY TO ACCEPT THIS (I mean for example  
***   AND FUNNESS   ***   opening a door and getting something **BIG** in 
                          front of you - REMEMBER IT HAS BEEN PLAYTESTED 
                          AND IT IS PLAYABLE - ) AND YOU KNOW YOU GOT 
                          WHAT IT TAKES TO DO IT THEN YOU WILL HAVE FUN.
                          THE FUN WILL COME FROM THE THRILL OF ESCAPING
                          DEATH IN DEATHFUL SITUATIONS WHERE COUNTLESS 
                          DOOMERS WOULD DIE, AND FROM THE SURPRISEFULNESS OF
                          THE WAD. 
                          I HOPE I TRIED TO MAKE A VERY GORY AND VIOLENT
                          EPISODE AND YET CAME OUT WITH SOMETHING FUN TO PLAY.
                          INEVITABLY THE LEVELS LACK SOMEWHAT IN LEVEL DESIGN. 

                          REMEBER :  YOU SHOULD TRY AND PLAY   ALL THE
                          LEVELS WITHOUT DYING. IF YOU DON'T PLAY WITH THIS
                          IN MIND, YOU'LL MISS PART OF THE FUN OF IT.

                          IN ONE OF THE FIFFY WADS (hurt me plenty) YOU TELEPORT 
                          INTO A ROOM, OPEN THE ONLY DOOR OF THIS SMALL 
                          (256x256) ROOM AND GET FRAGGED BY A CYBE WAITING FOR
                          YOU TO OPEN THE DOOR. YOU HAVE TO GET THERE TO COMPLETE
                          THE LEVEL. WHAT ELSE CAN YOU DO EXCEPT GET FRAGGED
                          100,000,000 TIMES ? WASTE YOUR TIME LOOKING FOR SECRETS 
                          FOR A SHORT CUT OR AN INVULN SPHERE ?             
                          
                          DON' GET ME WRONG : ALL IN ALL, FIFFY'S LEVELS ARE 
                          NOT BAD AT ALL. THERE IS A WARNING THAT YOU NEED 
                          TO USE THE CHEAT CODES IN THE HIGHEST DIFFICULTY  
                          LEVELS.
                          BUT IN HURT ME PLENTY THE GAME SHOULD BE PLAYABLE.

                          YOU MAY FIND THAT PAGANINI.WAD IS A PIECE OF SHIT, OR 
                          YOU MAY NOT LIKE PARTS OF IT...
                          WELL, I HOPE YOU'LL ENJOY IT...
                          If you know you can't take the heat, then don't play or 
                          play with the -skill 3 option.
                          In UV you'd die too often for the game to be 
                          enjoyable.
             
 ***     ADVICE   ****    Play with a clean mouse.
                          Don't play at 4 AM, or you'll get killed often.
                          Who enjoys getting a high frag count while playing
                          doom ?
                          Watch out for trouble at all times.
                          There might be 12 cybes behind that door.
                          It might not be a bad idea to walk around with the
                          chaingun or plasma gun in hand. Just in case...
                          If it looks like a trap, don't worry, it is.
                          All traps are designed to scare, not kill unless
                          of course you are really slow... or slow... or 
                          don't move your butt away lightning fast.
                          (depends on the traps...)
                          Take a break after each level. There 're kinda big.
                          Try and optimize soul spheres and amour by living on
                          medikits for as long as you think you may safely do so.
                          (WARNING : This is a *** really *** risky thing to do.)
                          Grab the goodies just before you end the level.
                          Of course you don't have to do that all the time to
                          beat all 10 levels, but if you do it suceesfully over
                          the first 3 or 4 levels this might be a great help 
                          because level 6 is not that easy. ( nor are level 2 
                          and 3 for that matter.)


*** SHOULD I PLAY  ***    - Single is what it is intended for.     
*** COOP OR SINGLE ***    2 or 3 player coop will make things a lot easier
*** OR DEATHMATCH  ***    but only if you play a good coop game. 
                          
                          A Where_are_you ?_Fuck_you_just_look_at_the_map kind 
                          of play is bound to be a total disaster.
                          I don't think the levels are well suited for
                          3-4 player coop. You might fell a bit cramped... 
                          My friends have stopped to play  doom in multiplayer,
                          now they play rott. (I hate the fucking game and 
                          I hate  Heretic, too.)

                          -Deathmatch ? Try it coop first...

                          -Coop : 2 player is fine. One should go first with
                          the chaingun or shotgun and the other(s) should
                          follow with the plasma gun or rocket launcher or 
                          whatever in case there is a tricky situation.
                          (there will be, and very hot ones...)
                          This is my idea of a good coop game.
                          I hate it when I move very close to a Baron to frag
                          it with the super shotgun and get fragged by a rocket
                          from my buddy.
                          It is much more effective if all use the shotgun.
                          Pick up the ammo when you need it to avoid ammo  
                          shortage and berzerk use.
                          If you do that you won't have to reload often.
                          (I hate that) Weapons have been placed in convenient
                          locations for coop so you don't have to scour the 
                          level  to get them back after you died.
                          Similarly you won't have to worry about finding all
                          the keys or a back pack again.

                          3 player : you might have ammo problem if you don't 
                          play well. Sometimes a lot of firepower will help, 
                          and sometimes it won't.

                              |                 more complicated layoutwise.

                              |_____ very conventional wad, almost wolf3d like
                                     (just to warm up, I didn't want things
                                     to get too tough right away.)
Single Player           : Yes !!    Quite easy if you use the right weapon       
                                    at the right time and if you can find 
                                    some of the secrets full of goodies.
                          
                          Get the plasma gun as early as you can.
                          Yes, it ** IS ** there !!!

Cooperative 2-4 Player  : Yes !! also designed for that to a certain extent
                          but only if you guys have already played coop
                          with your partners and you know you can be deal 
                          with tricky situation effectively.

                          *** fine for 2 (tested)
                          * ok for 3 (careful with that pea launcher, though )
                          * 4 player game : perhaps not very good in the
                             1st few levels, but quite useful later in the   
                             episode.
                            (3,4 player game : untested)
                          Multi player gameplay is not easy.
                          Some playtesters ran out of ammo before they could
                          end map 02 because they died too often.
                          If you don't stick together in multi player you'll
                          die often.

Deathmatch 2-4 Player   : Maps 1,2,3 should be real fun for that. Otherwise 
                          not designed specifically for deathmatch. 
                          Play it in single or coop 1st anyway before trying 
                          deathmatch.
                          Lots of starts, and ammo for it.
                          Fair starts in some levels, unfair in others, 
                          depending on the monster population there.

                          Not really playtested in deatchmatch.

Difficulty Settings     : Yes
                Level 1/2 : for nightmare mode  (untested)
                            or for deathmatch
                Level 3   : If you just wanna have fun, not very challenging.
                            
                Level 4   : What do you think it's call UV for ?
                Level 5   : If you can do it, I'll buy your mouse. The only
                            explanation is that it must be magical.
                            (How come Microsoft hasn't developed and marketed
                            a doom mouse ? There's big money to make...)

SHOULD YOU SELECT         UV  is not easy. Unlike -skill 3,which
-SKILL 3 OR -SKILL 4 ?    is just the right difficulty all the way through, 
                          -skill 4 features some really tricky places, 
                          especially in multi.
                          In multi,the difference between -skill3 and -skill 4
                          does not lie in the number of monsters.
                          Nor is there any great difference in the amount of 
                          ammo to be found.
                          Often there are a few more clustered monsters  in 
                          -skill 4 ; this makes the game tougher in a few 
                          places.
                          This is particularly true for multi.
                          In UV multi you will find cyberdemons which are not
                          there in -skill 3. There are lesser monsters instead.
                          (a few arachnotrons or some such thing.)

                YOU MAY USE THE FAST OPTION IS YOU WANT TO. IF YOU DO, YOU
                HAD BETTER BE PREPARED FOR A FIERCE BATTLE.
New Sounds              : No    

New Graphics            : No    Don't use the wads with any other patches
                                that might screw things up like big cacos, 
                                imps turned into rocket_firing dudes,
                                exotic weapons...
New Music               : No
Demos Replaced          : Yeah. MAP 10. Not me playing.
                          You need doom 2 v 1.9 to watch the demo.

* Construction *

Base                    : New wads from scratch except map 04 (modified e3m9)
Editor(s) used          : Deu, DCK 2.2 , RMB, deepbsp, nwt.
                          Level 4 *** IS *** optimized. 
                          If you want to optimize the wad again, do not 
                          use rmb on level 9. You may use reject, though.
                          (use a big sector value like 600 800 1000 or more)
                          But there should be no need to tamper with it.

Known Bugs              : None known. I removed at least a billion of them.
                          There might be a couple of bugs in deathmatch play.
                          You may find that the levels themselves are a bug.
                          
                          You should not try to get all of the secrets.
                          (some sectors were marked secrets that you can't 
                          get to. This is to ensure that some areas are really 
                          invisible on the map.)
                          All items should be gettable.
                          I guess all monsters can be fragged, so try to get
                          100 % of kills if you want to end the level.

                          If spiders are bugs, then the later levels are fulla
                          bugs. Don't worry, even if you don't or can't do it,
                          you'll have had some good dooming in the 1st 4 or 5
                          levels.
                          Level 9 may be unbearably slow in multi player game.
                          Level 10 is a piece of shit. Well I like it anyway.
                          The 1st 8 levels are not bad dooming.

get a modified version of another WAD they may already have played.

Any amount of email can't change a wad and I'm not sure whether I'll be
making any more wads. With Quake to be released so soon now who is still
playing doom anyway ?) 
But more importantly, if you think you made a great episode or wad you can
tell me about it. I don't really have time to try out thousands of wads to
get something worth playing and I think what a pwad maker's greatest wish
is people to play and enjoy their wads, isn't it ?
