REGULUS

So you're out in the big empty, ticking away at a nice 4 pc/hr, when your comp logs a
transmission flagged DISTRESS. Thinking of the staggering fine for disregard of such a
message (and your inability to get past the new hardwired lockouts placed on the comp
by the Admiralty Court after the Spican debacle), you punch it up.

It's quite garbled, but the transponder tag came through: it identifies the point of origin
as the Regulus One Advanced Technologies Laboratory...and it's owned by The Celestial
Group. A very Fortune 5K company, that. A guy could do worse than wander around in
the aftermath of some chaos at a braintank like that, pocketing anything that looks
especially shiny.. Yes, it might be time to heed the call of civic duty...

But then, for the first time, you actually hear the voice struggling through the static.
it's screaming about some sort of attack, all the scientists and the cadre of corporate
security being slaughtered throughout the station, transporters functioning erratically, no escape. You think about the sort of muscle that an outfit like Celestial would use to
protect its brightest minds, and what would be required to produce the rout of which this
last man speaks.

In retrospect, perhaps this is a matter best referred to the Navy. Yes, call in the law.
The Court would approve. But wait...the comp is flashing...no other ships in the area?!
Statute 105.abx.387? Reference "Law of the Sea?" Penalty for noncompliance impound
of vessel in question!

You call up the armory file. You've got a good stock, but still...

But nothing. You don't really have a choice.

If you ever get back, you're going to have to have a chat with that Admiralty Magistrate...

Regulus combines the regular, modular layout of a space station with some other stuff
(we won't get into that just now). The key things to remember here are:
Remember, you're playing from moment one.
Try different approaches to an area. Come at it from another angle.
  Doors are your friends.
  Step lively.
Stay alert! Trust nothing! Keep your shotgun handy!

Serious kudos go to: The creator of MacDEU, James Knight! James Knight! You beautiful,
marvelous man! Keep portin' away, mister!

Ron Midthun, for continuously downloading updates of MacDEU, for beta-testing, and for
  graciously providing thoughtlube.

Austin Katt, for sharing his technical know-how and for beta-testing.

And Ripper, for beta-testing and for going out and buying this big beautiful PowerMac on
  which I'm working.
