[5] RUNNING ED-209 WITHOUT THE DOOM FILES

[1] INTRODUCTION
----------------

ED-209 is a Doom and Doom ][ level-editor for DOS.
     Ed requires:
           A registered version of Doom
           A numeric co-processor

Since you are reading this file, you have unzipped the ED-209 files.
     That's a good start.

Now all you have to do is run SETUP.EXE from the directory containing
     ED-209's files.

[2] SETUP.EXE
-------------

This should be executed from the directory containing ED-209's files.

After typing SETUP and hitting ENTER, you should see a menu appear.
Selecting various menu items allows you to choose the directories
ED-209 uses to run DOOM, run itself, and look for .WAD files. The last
option lets you compile some data files using your DOOM.WAD file.

The current directories are shown at the bottom of the screen. If they
are not correct, select the appropriate menu item, and browse through
the directory structure until you reach the desired directory. Press
[INSERT] or click on [OK] to select the current directory, shown at the
top of the directory selection box.

After making sure that the path to the DOOM files is correct, select the
last option. ED-209 will start compiling some data needed to view and
align textures and flats (floor textures). This should take about ten
     seconds on 486DX2-66.

[3] WHEN TO RUN SETUP.EXE
-------------------------

Run SETUP.EXE the first time you install ED-209. (Ed should tell you
to do this if you haven't).

Anytime you move the DOOM files or the ED-209 files, re-run the setup
program and to tell Ed where various files now are.

Anytime your DOOM.WAD file is altered, you must re-run the setup
program and re-compile the data files. The DOOM.WAD file may be altered
if you have run a .WAD that requires an installation program, (ie:
AliensTC) or if you have upgraded (or downgraded) to a new version of
     DOOM.

[5] RUNNING ED-209
------------------

To run ED-209, type ED209 and hit enter in the directory you unzipped
     the files.

DO NOT run ED-209 by running ED209_11.EXE. Doing this will mean that
compiling and running maps will not work.

[4] RUNNING ED-209 WITHOUT THE DOOM FILES
-----------------------------------------

For some reason or other, you may want to do this. If you have already
installed ED-209 with the DOOM.WAD file present, everything will work
fine except that you won't be able to view textures or flats, or run a
     map to test it.
