Background: Not only hightech-geek-up-to-date-modern-UT-2040
like games offer special moves,no. Even good old doom has
some special movements, that allow the player to reach places
that cannot be reached in normal ways.

DooMgate Training Camp
======================

With this tiny level you can easily practice your
DOOM-special moves. You start up in a large hall facing north.
So as a first step you should start WALLRUNNING:

WALLRUNNING
-----------

WALLRUNNING can heavily increase running speed. It is only
possible along walls that are build in north-south
direction. And it works only running in NORTH direction
(NOT south...).

Place your right shoulder directly on the eastern wall, facing
north. Now start running and aim at the north-eastern corner of
the hall, maybe a little bit more to the right side. It is very
important that your shoulder 'touches' the wall all the time.
change the angle a little bit, try, and try and WHOOOOSH!!
When you found the correct angle you'll speed up automatically
at once. When you reach the end of the hall go back (remember:
you cannot wallrun in south direction...)
and try the western wall..

NORMAL JUMP
-----------

Go to the most northern pit. To jump across (from east to west
or vice versa) you simply have to RUN across. The running speed
carries you over the pit. Simple.

STRAFE JUMP
-----------

Try this with the pit in the middle. Doesn't work? Good!
So you need to move faster, because the required jumping
distance is bigger. In DooM you can increase your running speed
by STRAFE RUNNING (Anthony Bailey wrote some clever words about
this topic, which can be read here:

 http://doomgate.de/files/dgtc/strafing.html

To make it simple 'Strafe Running' is running diagonally by
pressing the 'run','forward' and 'strafe left' (or 'strafe
right') buttons simultaneously. This is faster then the normal
running, but needs some experience, because viewing direction
and moving direction are not the same. Try it out. When you get
used to it, try to jump across the pit. Sucess? very good!

ROCKET JUMP
-----------

Pit No.3 (the one with the wall) needs some different approach.
For those of you, who play Quake or some other shooters
(shame on you!): Please forget everything, that you've heard
about rocket jumping. In DooM it works different:
DooM Rocket jumping is used to increase your horizontical speed
(and _not_ you vertical jumping height).

A rocket jump is nothing without a rocket. So, as a first step,
arm youself... Now go to the pit, place yourself on the ledge directly
in front of wall, facing east (your rear to the pit).
Now comes the funny part: fire a rocket directly on the wall and
make a backstep _simultaneously_. When you wake up again
you'll find yourself at the other side of the pit.

Attention: This rocket jump works easily with the original DOOM
engines and with WINdoom. It does NOT work with many modern ports
like ZDOOM, LEGaCY or JDOOM/DOOMSDAY.

Have fun and keep on dooming!
