Ok, great! You're one of the smart ones who read the
README's!

BEFORE YOU INSTALL

Remove any copies of Dehacked, Deusf, or any files
named "install.bat" before unzipping WoTDoom3.zip.
This is precautionary. If don't know what Dehacked
or Deusf is, then you don't have them. They're
WAD hacking utilites :-)

Be sure that you have about 15 Megs free, for the purpose
of installing. WoTDoom3 will take up much less room than
that, about 9 Megs, but still, give it room to breathe.

NOTE TO PEOPLE WHO HAVE WOTDOOM2:

You may delete these files to free up hard drive:

WoTDoom2.wad
WoTDom2.exe
WoTDoom2.bat
Deusf.exe (if it's still lingering about)
Dehacked.exe (Same story)
result.txt

You may of course opt to keep these, to compare versions 2
3, but why? Chunk 'em and regain some free space.

TO INSTALL AND PLAY:

Unzip the ENTIRE contents of WoTDoom3.zip into the same
directory that you have Doom2 in, and at a DOS prompt,
type "install". Follow the on-screen instructions, and
you'll be fine.

TIP: Try running the install from a Windows 95 Dos box;
I have found that it installs MUCH faster.

After the installation is done, a new batch file will
be generated: WOTDOOM3.BAT. Type WOTDOOM3 at the DOS
prompt (in the directory that you have run the install
from, of course) and it will load up the hacked version
of Doom2.exe (your original file is left unmolested) and
the two wadfiles that WoTDoom needs. Please use this
batchfile, and don't load up the wads at the command line!

It will also generate another batchfile, CLEAN.BAT, which is
optional. If you run it, it will compress "wt_sp-ft.wad" somewhat.
Be sure you have about 10 Megs free, because it will
temporarily need some space to perform the reduction. It's
totally optional, though.

POSSIBLE PROBLEMS YOU MAY ENCOUNTER

1. I have tested the installation repeatedly. There is a
one in thousand chance that the Dehacked patch will totally
SCREW UP your Doom2 files; the why of this is unknown. It
happened to me only once while playing someone else's patch.

You'll know you're screwed when Doom2 won't load. The only
known way to repair this is to completely delete EVERY file
in your Doom2 directory, even the directory name, and re-install.
If you have harddrive to spare, make a mirror of your Doom2
directory before trying anyone's Dehacked patches, including
this one.

2. "It loads up, starts up, but crashes" - Please tell me
exactly where it crashes, and tell me what difficulty setting
you have it at, and specifically what level. I will track it
down, and see if it's just you or my wads.

3. "It crashes back to DOS with a message telling me to E-mail you"
Tell me exactly what the message said. I've coded the most common
bomb-outs with a numbering system, so tell me what numbers it
spits at you. Bad part is, I wrote down what the numbers meant
and ended up throwing it away. Sheesh. I can still track down the
problems, though.

4. "Does not load" If it goes up to the "Ok, time for the little
dots" message and quits, try rebooting your computer and trying
again. This happens mostly with Win95. It can happen with any
WAD, it seems.

5. "There are pillars blocking the exit switches" You forgot
to use the WOTDOOM3 batch file! You MUST use it. Those pillars
are there just for that reason, to insure you can't NOT use the
batch file.

6. "It crashes on level 3, when I turn around" You probably didn't
run the install.bat.

7. "It played fine for awhile, but at certain points in the level it
crashes to DOS with a "invalid sprite frame xx:xx = xxxxx" Please
E-mail me, I'll send you a little "repair kit". What happened was
that DEUSF failed to complete it's duty. It's not life-threatning
or anything. I try to avoid that error by running DEUSF twice
during the installation. (I thought ahead for once)

Well, that covers the common stuff. If you have a problem, tell me,
send me the file called RESULT.TXT, which will be located in the same
directory that you installed from. During installation, this text
file is updated at every major step. Should it fail, then this file
ought to help me help you.
