The Reading-Area DOOM Players Info File
---------------------------------------

Ver 2.0
Date 4/1/96

SECTION 1: About 'us'
---------------------

We are a small group of people in the Reading area of the UK who are (like
many others) interested in wasting as much of their time as possible in
playing DOOM2 (and sometimes ROTT and Descent).

We often meet together to play networked games by bringing four machines to
one place. This is much more fun (than using modems and DWANGO) as everybody
is in the same place and we don't have the hassle and cost of using the phone.

Some of us went to the Live '95 show in London last year. Alan, Jeff and
Michael entered the open DeathMatch competition. Jeff reached the final and
Michael the semi-final, but at the time we were still using the keyboard only.
In Michael's semi, the numbers were made up by a "guest" entrant - Macca from
PC Zone magazine. When the slaughter was over, we decided it was time to
convert to mouse+Keyboard, as we had been somewhat outclassed. It might be
of interest to compare these new demos with the ones we posted last year,
when we still used the keyboard.

SECTION 2: Current Players
--------------------------

Alan - Keeps causing upsets. Stubbornly refused to give up keyboard play,
but has since relented and is now capable of winning 3-way games.
Andrew - Whatever happened to him?
Chris - He tries.
Colin - Has come on a lot since switching to mouse. Doesn't have Doom at
home, so is not as practised.
Jeff - It is impossible to cheat on Deathmatch Doom. Somehow though, Jeff
is doing it. There is no other explanation.
Michael - Now beats Jeff approx 25% of the time. The other 75% of the time
          is quite annoying though.
Olly - Gets angry with the BFG's usage! Good with the shotgun.
Richard - Chris' friend. This man played us only once. He proudly showed
us his Playboy Screensaver collection. Then we killed him.

SECTION 3: Current games
------------------------

Head-to-heads (via modem?) are welcomed. We've received a couple of H2H
challenges by email - one locally and one from the US.

At the moment we mainly play 3-way deathmatches using levels 1,2 and 7.
Levels 18 and 32 are fun too, but are more suited to 4-way due to their size.
We tend not to play PWADs because... well, we can't be bothered really.

Old Deathmatch rules rule, as this is much more action packed and
involves more frenzied killing - no fannying about, waiting for things to
appear.

Skill 5 - as this gives more ammo per weapon and increases the effectiveness
of each weapon. The result - "blood and entrails flying through the air
and landing on my face."

For two player, we usually play with a 15 minute timer, but for 3 and 4 way,
we are increasingly favouring 50 or 99 and out, which often involves an
exciting dash for the exit.

SECTION 4: Machines used
------------------------

The four machines currently used are one 486 DX4-120, two 486DX2-66s
and one 486DX-33 machine which is under construction from the bits left
behind after upgrades. All have NE2000 compatible cards for the network.

SECTION 5: Future plans
-----------------------

a) Organise an 8-player competition (this year, definately).
b) Continually improve our machines to provide faster and better games.

SECTION 6: This Zip file
------------------------

RADM01.ZIP contains four .lmp files for Doom II v1.9, plus their
corresponding text files. They are a selection from ten games we played
in one evening. "A" was the first, "D" the last, and the others came
somewhere in between. Most are from Jeff's perspective (Green).
